Default Jump, Climb, Swim - This Game is Missing Basic Fundamental Human Movements

I love this game but the gameplay needs to be majorly enhanced. I mean, not having the ability to do really basic and essential movements like jumping, swimming, climbing, etc. just isn't natural.

It's a GAME ... if you want real life, get out of your chair and go outside.

True, but then again, some games do have these.

Did you even read what you just posted before you hit submit reply? He's talking about game controls, not a RL simulator. It's very annoying to have an area you need to get just 3 feet below you, but you have to instead run a mile around a looping map to get there since there is no jumping.

Very true indeed

Jump would be nice at the very least though, It's weird not being able to since I am in WoW, lol

I must admit, in today's times, no jumping or swimming sounds entirely foreign to me...

I may just wait a bit on this game.

To be fair, it is a hack and slash game, and I can't name one that did have jumping or swimming. Diablo, Dungeon Seige, NWN, Sacred, etc. always rooted to the ground.

Ah, I was thinking of World of Warcraft and I even though I haven't played it, I can't imagine that The Matrix would not have jumping given that lots of it would probably "be" jumping.

if jumping was set as an actual option for motion, there are LOADS of maps that would have to be thought out again as the characters wouldn't be able to get back out. It makes collisions with terrain a lot easier to resolve if these kind of options aren't present ingame, therefore reducing the traffic between your computers and the servers. Think practically about what you are actually suggesting - most of the maps in GW would have to be redesigned for idiots who think its a good idea to jump into a big crater and can't get back out again.

It's an RPG. I'll bet you can't name more than 5 RPGs where you can swim.

I'll help:

Morrowind
um...

Alright, I'm stumped.

Notice how smooth and beautiful the game is/ plays?

This issue has been discussed in several threads 1 less axis= faster gameplay and easier coding.

adding the 3rd axis adds to clipping problems, being stuck, exponential more code and system resources to play the same game.
Guildwars is not a "typical" MMORPG and some say not an MMORPG at all no matter how foreign this behavior is, it is part of the game.

This kind of game will not be for everyone, if you have apprehension then do not buy it.

No, no and no.

First, there is something called bounding boxes which can be placed around pits that would prevent people from jumping in them. Would take a few hours, but a single level design guy could go around the world and add these in no problem.

Next, the game is already 3d, the game is already checking to make sure we are standing on the ground when we walk around, otherwise we would start floating if we walked off a ramp. There are no new checks that would need to be added. There's also already a (kinda) realistic physics engine handling missile flights.

Lastly, see the first thing.

And then the people would complain that they cant jump in the crater. After all it is not realistic that I cant jump into a hole in the ground. Or why cant I jump off this big cliff to get down there, Yada Yada Yada....

So what your saying is...

allow jumping, but put walls up around all the little three foot drops that you are originally complaining about? I fail to see the difference in that.

The "3rd axis" is already there. It's already being used by spells and missiles and emotes. I'd like to see how that discussion went down, would be good for laughs.

The only thing in your post that was close to correct was being stuck, and yes there might be some issues with people getting wedged in places when they jump the wrong way, at first, over time those problem areas would be fixed (say during the beta like every other game with jumping, too late now though).

I'm quite sure he either was not being serious, or this was just one of many reasons he might not like the game. Nobody would not buy a game because it didn't have jumping. 0_o
